Senate Presidency; game of cash

According to governors from Nigeria’s ruling party, the All Progressives Congress, two candidates vying for the third and fourth highest offices in Nigeria’s elections are allegedly planning to bribe lawmakers with up to $1m each to secure their positions. The governors did not name the candidates but warned that they are members of the APC.

Currently, senators-elect are beginning to lobby for the presidency of the upper chamber in Nigeria’s 10th National Assembly. Some of the senators-elect interested in the position include Ali Ndume, Akpabio, Orji Uzoh Kalu, Jibrin Barau, and Mohammed Sani Musa, among others. However, the report does not mention the names of any aspirants who may be vying for the Nigerian Senate President position specifically.

34 Felony counts against Donald Trump

Donald Trump is scheduled to appear in court in Manhattan in December 2023 for a pretrial hearing in a criminal case brought against him by the New York County District Attorney, Alvin Bragg. The trial may impact the outcome of the Republican presidential nominee with an upcoming hearing on December 4th against 34 felony counts. The Manhattan district attorney is advocating for the trial to begin in January, however, Trump’s defense is proposing a later date. If the prosecution’s insistence was imposed, Trump’s campaign would have to fight a split of attention between the trial and the campaign in Iowa and New Hampshire primary contests as it may pose a risk to his campaign. Trump’s legal team is pushing for a trial date after the early states’ contests. The case is viewed by many as flimsy, and Bragg has yet to specify the other crime he alleges Trump committed. It is not illegal to withhold a candidate’s marital infidelities.

This is welcome Development

The National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) has approved the use of the R21 malaria vaccine for the treatment of malaria in Nigeria. This is a major breakthrough in the fight against malaria, which is a major public health challenge in Nigeria.

The R21 vaccine was developed by a team of researchers from the University of Oxford in partnership with the Serum Institute of India. The vaccine has been found to be highly effective in preventing malaria in clinical trials, with a success rate of over 75%.

Malaria is a parasitic disease that is transmitted through the bites of infected mosquitoes. It is a major cause of illness and death in Nigeria, particularly among children under the age of five. The approval of the R21 vaccine is expected to significantly reduce the incidence of malaria and save lives.

The next step is to ensure that the vaccine is made available to those who need it most. This will require collaboration between the government, international organizations, and the private sector to ensure that the vaccine is affordable and accessible to all Nigerians.

Dino Melaye

While Dino Melaye may have been picked as the representative of the Kogi State PDP Chapter for the gubernatorial election, it is important to note that the election has not yet taken place. Therefore, it would be premature to declare him the winner of the election. Elections in Nigeria are subject to change, and the outcome of any election cannot be accurately predicted until the official results are released. It is also worth noting that Dino Melaye previously ran for the same position in the 2019 election, but lost to the incumbent governor, Yahaya Bello.

ADAMAWA RETURNING OFFICER

According to recent news, the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) suspended the collation of results for the supplementary election in Adamawa state after Barrister Hudu Yunus Ari declared Senator Aisha Dahiru as the winner of the gubernatorial election [2]. However, INEC has declared this action null and void, as it goes against their guidelines [2]. The incumbent governor, Ahmadu Fintiri of the PDP, was leading with 421,524 votes while Senator Aishatu Dahiru, popularly known as Binani, had 390,275 votes [2]. INEC had earlier refuted the purported declaration of the result by its REC in the Adamawa State Governorship election [1]. The Adamawa Resident Electoral Commissioner has been summoned by INEC over the purported declaration [3].
